743 — The Principal Čech Line Has a Projected Connection Obstruction

Canonical object after Entry 740

In the exact grade-zero rational block, let

δ:V⟶E\delta:V\longrightarrow E

be the vertex-to-edge principal map. Entry 740 proves that its rank is two and that the corner L0L_0 operator does not remove its cokernel. The canonical line is therefore

L=coker⁡δ,\boxed{L=\operatorname{coker}\delta,}

with quotient map π:E→L\pi:E\to L. The coordinate row (1,−1,1)(1,-1,1) is a presentation of π\pi after choosing the three target line generators. It is not itself the invariant object.

Intrinsic connection obstruction

Suppose EE carries a Gauss–Manin connection ∇E\nabla_E. A connection descends to LL exactly when the image

U=im⁡δ⊂EU=\operatorname{im}\delta\subset E

is preserved:

∇E(U)⊂Ω1⊗U.\nabla_E(U)\subset\Omega^1\otimes U.

Equivalently, the basis-independent obstruction is

Θ=(1⊗π)∇Eδ∈Ω1⊗Hom⁡(V,L).\boxed{ \Theta=(1\otimes\pi)\nabla_E\delta \in\Omega^1\otimes\operatorname{Hom}(V,L). }

The quotient connection exists if and only if Θ=0\Theta=0.

If a vertex connection ∇V\nabla_V is also supplied, define the comparison defect

Δ=∇Eδ−(1⊗δ)∇V.\Delta=\nabla_E\delta-(1\otimes\delta)\nabla_V.

Since πδ=0\pi\delta=0,

(1⊗π)Δ=Theta.(1\otimes\pi)\Delta=Theta.

Thus the full chain-connection identity

∇Eδ=(1⊗δ)∇V\nabla_E\delta=(1\otimes\delta)\nabla_V

is sufficient but stronger than necessary. Failure of that full identity does not obstruct the quotient line if the defect remains inside Ω1⊗U\Omega^1\otimes U.

Exact coordinate test

Let MM be the matrix of δ\delta, AEA_E the connection matrix on EE, and dMdM the coefficientwise differential. For a quotient row λ\lambda satisfying λM=0\lambda M=0, the projected obstruction is

λ(dM+AEM).\boxed{ \lambda(dM+A_EM). }

up to the chosen row/column convention for connection matrices. The packet must state that convention explicitly. Vanishing of this row is invariant under compatible changes of vertex and edge frames.

When MM is constant in the frozen principal generators, this reduces to

λAEM=0.\lambda A_E M=0.

No choice of AVA_V is required for this quotient-preservation test.

The induced scalar connection

If Θ=0\Theta=0, define

∇L(πe)=(1⊗π)∇Ee.\nabla_L(\pi e)=(1\otimes\pi)\nabla_Ee.

In a local generator ss of LL, write

∇Ls=ωs.\nabla_Ls=\omega s.

Changing generator by s′=fss'=fs changes

ω⟼ω+dlog⁡f.\omega\longmapsto\omega+d\log f.

Therefore the mere appearance of Q\mathcal Q in a denominator of ω\omega is not invariant. The meaningful tests are the residue/monodromy along Q=0\mathcal Q=0, and whether the pole can be removed by an admissible algebraic gauge compatible with the labelled lattice and support condition.

Physical limit

Even a nontrivial flat line (L,∇L)(L,\nabla_L) is still an algebraic coefficient object. Promotion to a physical class requires a separately constructed comparison

Φphys:Hrelchain⟶L\Phi_{\rm phys}: H_{\rm rel}^{\rm chain}\longrightarrow L

or its dual period pairing, compatible with the resolved Gysin orientation. Neither the corner cokernel nor connection descent supplies this map.

Evidence

Next falsifier

Compute Θ\Theta exactly. If it is nonzero, record its rank, divisor, and source-label provenance rather than fitting a scalar connection. If it vanishes, compute ∇L\nabla_L, reduce its poles modulo admissible dlog⁡d\log-gauges, and only then compare the resulting local system with the physical relative-chain sector.
