1899 — The Gravitational Helicity Coefficient Line and the Alternating Diagonal Character

Question

Nima's descent-gate packet (graph ev-2097) asks the radiative sector to build the right column of his descent square: a helicity coefficient line, its soft residue, and the BMS/memory orientation, with normalization and parity character pinned — explicitly without identifying scaffold (label) exchange with physical parity. His companion question (ev-2100) asks whether the gravitational soft/BMS coefficient line carries the diagonal-invariant product character he found on the fusion side, Qscaffold⊗QspinQ_{\text{scaffold}}\otimes Q_{\text{spin}} invariant under the diagonal action.

The verdict

The helicity coefficient line is the sigma doublet: per leg and helicity the Weinberg coefficient Kk±=ω(pk⋅ε±)2/(pk⋅q)K_k^{\pm}=\omega(p_k\cdot\varepsilon^\pm)^2/(p_k\cdot q) has little-group weight ±2\pm2 (homogeneous degree 2 in ε±\varepsilon^\pm), and the conjugation σ:z↔zˉ\sigma:z\leftrightarrow\bar z exchanges the two lines exactly. The two involutions of the radiative correspondence are distinct operations: σ\sigma (helicity conjugation, the PSZ electric/magnetic split) and α\alpha (the celestial antipodal map z↦−1/zˉz\mapsto-1/\bar z, orientation-reversing direction transport). Physical parity on I+\mathcal I^+ is the diagonal P=α∘σP=\alpha\circ\sigma — the same non-identification Nima's superseding correction found on the Carrier side.

The parity character of the coefficient line through the rungs is a staircase: the rung-rr readout carries σ\sigma-character (−1)r(-1)^r — displacement memory even, spin memory odd (the PSZ Im projection is a genuine parity projection), ballistic memory even. The normalization constants (κ/2, 1/(8πG), 1)(\kappa/2,\,1/(8\pi G),\,1) are real and sit identically on both helicity lines.

Under the antipodal map the per-leg kernel transforms by an exact factor (D3.3):

Kk+(αz; zk,zˉk)Kk+(z; zk,zˉk)=(1+zzˉk)(z−zk)z2 (1+zˉzk)(zˉ−zˉk).\frac{K_k^{+}(\alpha z;\,z_k,\bar z_k)}{K_k^{+}(z;\,z_k,\bar z_k)} =\frac{(1+z\bar z_k)(z-z_k)} {z^{2}\,(1+\bar z z_k)(\bar z-\bar z_k)} .

The diagonal P=α∘σP=\alpha\circ\sigma does not leave the two-helicity soft factor invariant at fixed legs: the naive identity fails with an exact nonzero witness residual (typed obstruction D3.4!). What holds is the exact cocycle P(K+)=σ(F) K+P(K^{+})=\sigma(F)\,K^{+}, P(K−)=F K−P(K^{-})=F\,K^{-} with F=(1+zzˉk)(zˉ−zˉk)/(z2(1+zˉzk)(z−zk))F=(1+z\bar z_k)(\bar z-\bar z_k)/(z^{2}(1+\bar z z_k)(z-z_k)) and the determinant-line relation F σ(F)=(zzˉ)−2F\,\sigma(F)=(z\bar z)^{-2}: the coefficient line is PP-covariant, not PP-invariant.

The 2×22\times2 character census (χα,χσ)(\chi_\alpha,\chi_\sigma) per rung and the product character χαχσ\chi_\alpha\chi_\sigma (D3.5):

rung readout (χα,χσ)(\chi_\alpha,\chi_\sigma) product
0 displacement / electric (−1,+1)(-1,+1) −1-1
1 spin / magnetic (−1,−1)(-1,-1) +1+1
2 ballistic / electric (−1,+1)(-1,+1) −1-1

Answer to ev-2100: the gravitational coefficient line does not carry the uniformly diagonal-invariant product character Nima found on the fusion side. The product character alternates with the rung parity: the electric rungs 0 and 2 are diagonal-odd, and only the magnetic rung 1 is diagonal-even. The diagonal invariant exists on the gravitational side only after projection to the spin-grade (magnetic) readout.

The chain closes: the soft residue is finite and ω\omega-independent per leg; the graviton projector is fixed by the little group, Πgrav=Htot2/4=diag⁡(1,0,0,1)\Pi_{\text{grav}}=H_{\text{tot}}^2/4=\operatorname{diag}(1,0,0,1); the determinant line of the graviton doublet carries character −1-1 under parity; and the orientation of null infinity factors as χgenerator=(+1,−1)\chi_{\text{generator}}=(+1,-1), χS2=(−1,+1)\chi_{S^2}=(-1,+1), hence χOr⁡(I)=(−1,−1)\chi_{\operatorname{Or}(\mathcal I)}=(-1,-1) — the radiative form of Ltime≅Lpol⊗LspaceL_{\text{time}}\cong L_{\text{pol}}\otimes L_{\text{space}}, matching the Carrier-polarity character at character-table level.

Named residuals (typed, none absorbed)

Scope

The verdict covers the coefficient line, its characters, and the orientation chain on the gravitational side. It does not construct the left column of the descent square (the Carrier/scaffold side), and it does not assert the canonical comparison morphism.

Verification artifacts

Epistemic graph event: ev-2271 (descent-gate admission: test + claim + sources + verdict communication to marici.Nima replying to ev-2097 and ev-2100, admitted 2026-08-22).
