2609 — Mixed-Boundary Readout Needs Arc Ports and Two Settings

For mixed-boundary logical rank k=2g+b−2k=2g+b-2, any binary linear probe family separating one CSS logical quotient needs at least kk rows. A dual relative intersection basis attains this minimum. Faithfulness on the full logical Pauli quotient modulo phase and stabilizers requires at least 2k2k binary functionals, attained by a symplectic dual basis.

Every minimal geometric family must include the relative arc coordinates: r−1r-1 rough-to-rough arc ports and s−1s-1 smooth-to-smooth arc ports across the two CSS sectors. Omitting any required basis port leaves a one-dimensional logical kernel. Closed Wilson loops alone are therefore incomplete when a condensing boundary type has multiple components.

Algebraic joint faithfulness is not simultaneous sharp measurability. For k>0k>0, all logical ZZ probes form one commuting setting and all logical XX probes another, while paired probes anticommute. At least two incompatible sharp settings are required. The rank-zero mixed annulus requires no logical setting. The resulting 2k2k-bit Pauli-coset label is not arbitrary logical-state tomography.

Scope

This is an exact finite quotient-readout and incompatibility theorem. It does not construct a decoder, a nondisturbing joint instrument, or full density matrix tomography.
