Scope

Entry 3003 types the sign of the imaginary Pauli direction as a calibrated orientation torsor. This entry computes its holonomy for the frozen passive polarization instrument built from quarter-wave plates, half-wave plates, and polarizers.

The result applies to source transitions generated by unitary Jones matrices. It does not exclude orientation reversal in an enlarged source that independently admits antiunitary transport.

Unitary transition action

Let U∈U(2)U\in U(2) be a Jones transition. Its adjoint action preserves the real vector space of traceless Hermitian matrices:

UσiU†=∑j=13R(U)jiσj.U\sigma_iU^\dagger = \sum_{j=1}^{3}R(U)_{ji}\sigma_j.

The Pauli trace pairing gives

R(U)TR(U)=I.R(U)^TR(U)=I.

Since the global phase of UU acts trivially, the action factors through

PU(2)≃SO(3).PU(2)\simeq SO(3).

Consequently

det⁡R(U)=+1.\det R(U)=+1.

Every source-derived waveplate transition therefore rotates the complete Pauli frame (X,Y,Z)(X,Y,Z) without reversing its orientation.

Closed-loop holonomy

For a closed calibrated optical loop with composite Jones transport UγU_\gamma, returning to the same analyzer projector permits at most a scalar endpoint action

Uγ=eiϕIU_\gamma=e^{i\phi}I

on the Jones spinor. Its adjoint action is exactly identity:

R(Uγ)=I.R(U_\gamma)=I.

A spinor phase or sign can therefore occur without inducing a sign in the observable complex orientation. The orientation torsor has trivial C2C_2 holonomy on every loop generated by the frozen unitary transition group.

For two labelled ports the product transition lies in

SO(3)×SO(3),SO(3)\times SO(3),

so the tensor-product tomography frame remains orientation-preserving port by port.

Antiunitary separator

Complex conjugation instead induces

(X,Y,Z)⟼(X,−Y,Z),(X,Y,Z)\longmapsto(X,-Y,Z),

whose determinant is −1-1. Thus orientation reversal is an exact detector of antiunitary transport. It cannot be generated by the frozen waveplate Jones group.

Narrow conclusion

The source calibration chooses an initial section of the complex-orientation torsor, and source-unitary transport propagates it uniquely with no sign holonomy. Hence the optical complex lens is globally oriented on each connected unitary calibration component.

This strengthens the architecture to

complex coefficient lens+source-selected initial orientation+canonical unitary propagation.\text{complex coefficient lens} + \text{source-selected initial orientation} + \text{canonical unitary propagation}.

It still does not make the initial orientation a Carrier primitive. Reversing every calibrated circular convention gives an equivalent conjugate presentation.

Next falsifier

Test sewing between independently calibrated source components. The finite question is whether the source supplies an orientation-preserving comparison element in SO(3)SO(3), or leaves a relative C2C_2 ambiguity. A shared physical interaction may synchronize the components; disjoint tomography packets need not.
