3416 — Passivity Plus Observability Excludes Boundary Unit Modes

For a normalized boundary loop LL, an exact passive defect identity

I−L∗L=O∗OI-L^*L=O^*O

does not by itself exclude a unit fixed mode. It does, however, telescope:

Wm=∑k=0m−1(L∗)kO∗OLk=I−(L∗)mLm.W_m= \sum_{k=0}^{m-1}(L^*)^kO^*OL^k =I-(L^*)^mL^m.

If one fixed horizon satisfies Wm≥εIW_m\ge\varepsilon I uniformly, then LmL^m is a strict contraction and

∥(I−L)−1∥≤m1−1−ε.\|(I-L)^{-1}\| \le \frac{m}{1-\sqrt{1-\varepsilon}}.

Thus passivity plus uniform finite-horizon observability is an exact route from source outputs to completion-stable exclusion of the boundary unit eigenvalue. Reciprocity or conservation alone can pair or transport unit modes but cannot exclude them.

Scope: the theta boundary loop, defect identity, sector metric, output rows, and uniform Gramian bound remain to be derived from source data. No checker or build was run under the operator's research-only instruction.
