The Full Weyl Determinant Is Nonzero at a Cross-Port Zero

For the canonical two-port Weyl compression

M(z)=(u∗R(z)uu∗R(z)vv∗R(z)uv∗R(z)v),M(z)= \begin{pmatrix} u^*R(z)u&u^*R(z)v\\ v^*R(z)u&v^*R(z)v \end{pmatrix},

the theta readout is the cross entry. At a cross zero, the determinant is the product of the two diagonal Herglotz responses, and both are nonzero off the real spectral axis. Therefore the full passive determinant is necessarily nonzero at an off-axis theta zero.

The physical divisor must be a relative determinant, constrained Schur complement, or nonstandard self-adjoint Evans boundary condition—not the ordinary full Weyl determinant.
