The Mellin--Descent Commutator Is the Canonical Off-Diagonal Current

Let EE average over conductor fibers and let Λ=diag⁡(log⁡n)\Lambda=\operatorname{diag}(\log n) be the Mellin generator. Then

C=(1−E)ΛEC=(1-E)\Lambda E

is a source-derived map from the descended block to its complementary current block. It is the off-diagonal part of the infinitesimal failure of Mellin transport to commute with descent:

ddz(e−zΛEezΛ)∣z=0=[E,Λ].\left.\frac{d}{dz}(e^{-z\Lambda}Ee^{z\Lambda})\right|_{z=0} =[E,\Lambda].

Moreover C∗C=EΛ(1−E)ΛEC^*C=E\Lambda(1-E)\Lambda E, whose fiberwise coefficient is the variance of log⁡n\log n. The current is therefore nonzero precisely when descent identifies distinct Mellin scales.

This supplies the missing off-diagonal constructor but not yet Wronskian orientation. The next gate is whether the iterated centered moments (1−E)ΛkE(1-E)\Lambda^kE cyclically generate every complementary fiber direction.
